A numerical study on influence of strain gradients on lattice rotation in micro-machining of a single crystal

In latest years small scale machining has been widely used in advanced engineering applications such as medical and optical devices, micro- nano-electro-mechanical systems. micromachining of metals, a depth cut becomes usually smaller than an average crystal size polycrystalline structure; thus, the cutting process zone can be localized fully indoors single grain. Due to crystallographic anisotropy, development models accounting for plasticity are essential precise calculation material removal under circumstances. For this purpose, 3D finite-element model micro-cutting grain was developed. A crystal-plasticity theory gradients strain, implemented ABAQUS/Explicit via user-defined subroutine VUMAT, computations. The deformation-induced lattice rotations were analyzed extensively.
